How to Remove Ink Stains From Your Carpet

Having your pen bust or break and spill ink is one of the most annoying things that can happen. What is worse is when the ink gets onto your shirt, pants, and worse yet, your carpet. Getting ink stains out of your carpet is no walk in the park. If left unattended, these stains can really ruin your carpet.

Cleaning up ink stains is not a fun activity but it is necessary in order to get your carpet back to being spotless and looking like new. It can be a tough task to complete but with the right attitude and the correct information you can get rid of any ink stain in no time. Here is the proper procedure for cleaning ink stains from your carpet.

  1. Clean the stain immediately to avoid allowing it to get worse. This is always the first step when cleaning up ink stains. Letting it set or leaving it for several hours before trying to clean it will only make it harder, if not impossible, for you to remove it. As soon as the ink gets on your carpet, get to it right away to have the best chance of removing it.
  2. Get a clean cotton cloth and apply some rubbing alcohol on it. Isopropyl alcohol works best. Then, use the clean cloth to blot the stained area. You’ll see that the stain will gradually improve as the ink transfers onto the surface of the cloth. Repeat this step, applying alcohol again onto the cloth once it dries up. Do this until all of the stain is removed or until the stain stops transferring onto the cloth.
  3. If you don’t get the ink completely out after the last step, get a commercial carpet cleaning product that you would regularly use and apply it onto the stain. By this time the stain will already have been reduced and should be a lot easier to remove using the carpet cleaning product. Blot the stain again using a clean cloth and after a few tries the stain should be totally gone.
  4. Don’t forget to rinse the area of the carpet where the stain used to be with clean water. This helps prevent residue from building up and damaging your carpet.

Ink stains don’t have to be a nightmare for carpet owners anymore. By following the simple steps above you can get rid of any ink stain from your carpet without any hassles and have your carpet clean and beautiful once again.
